It was a glorious day out at Blacktown Olympic Park and the Canberra AFL team came out of the blocks firing taking a fairly commanding lead after the first quarter, Sydney was playing fairly tentatively and needed to re-group, re-focus and get on with the job which is exactly what they did in the 2nd quarter and had brought the deficit back to just 8 points at half-time.
The 3rd and final quarter saw Sydney take the lead and keep it, taking the victory with the final result as follows:
AFL Sydney 1-4 6-6 12-9 15-12-102
AFL Canberra 5-0 8-2 11-3 12-6 – 78
This was the first victory for the Rep side in a few years now and it really showed how important it was with the captain giving a great thank you to all involved after the game.

The top two teams in the Sydney AFL Premier Division came together at Henson Park for Round 13, in Round 5 the Eagles defeated the Magpies by 3 goals, this round started very differently though, at one point the Magpies where up by an astonishing 10 goals and at the half still lead by 9. Eagles coach Glenn Garner must have had said some inspirational words at half time because the Eagles came out a very different team, at the end of the third quarter the Eagles where still down by 6 goals and i like many others thought it might be just to much to claw back, ohh was everyone wrong, with the game going in to stoppage time and with just a few seconds left Mark Skuse snapped a goal almost on the 50m line to put the Eagles in front for the first time, and that would have it, the siren went and the Eagles celebrated as the Magpies collapsed in shock at what had just happened, in my 2 years shooting Sydney AFL, over 50 games covered I havent seen a fightback like this.

Campbelltown made its way to Sydney University Oval with high expectations after their win against the Eagles the week prior, a tight game with some interesting moments saw the Students come out strong and lead from the outset to a 3 goal victory which still gives them a slight chance of making the finals if the Demons and the Blues have a weak last 5 rounds.

A wet week in Sydney saw Wollongong and North Shore move from Gore Hill to Bruce Purser Oval, a very different feel to the fixture with very little supporters from both camps as opposed to normal East Coast fixtures. A brave fightback from the Lions saw them come within 2 goals of taking the victory, however the strangest thing from the match was the last quarter 40min quarter.

Well it was saflPhotos first time shooting the Blues this season, not sure why or how that happened but it was, they where up against the Eagles who stood tall at the top of the ladder with very little competition all year, wow what a shock, the Blues played some inspiring football and seemed to play the more consistent game all afternoon, the sun set over bruce purser shinning a golden light upon the blues and they took it with both arms and defeated the eagles by 5 points.
